R&D solutions for acne & hyperseborrhea

In order to open new horizons for scientific research in the field of acne and hyperseborrhea, and more specifically for the testing and screening of active pharmaceutical ingredients, Phenocell offers a new & exclusive human sebocyte model derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC).

iPSC-derived sebocytes display all the key functional characteristics of normal human sebocytes, including sebum synthesis, while - unlike cell lines - retaining a normal karyotype. Due to their high genomic stability, their availability in almost unlimited quantities and their high level of inter-batch reproducibility, iPSC-derived cells are the most robust and relevant tool for the execution of your screening campaigns and R&D projects

Take advantage of the characteristics of a primoculture with the benefits of a cell line using iPSC-derived cells:

  • high genomic stability

  • available in almost unlimited quantities

  • high batch-to-batch reproducibility

iPSC-derived cells are the most relevant model for HTS studies on human cells!

Biodiversity

Phenocell's acne & oily skin models are based on the use of iPSC-derived sebocytes from multiple donors:

  • Human iPSC-sebocytes differentiated from asian donors

  • Human iPSC-sebocytes differentiated from african donors
  • Human iPSC-sebocytes differentiated from caucasian donors

Cell culture format

Useful for ethnicity specific claim validation

Phenocell's iPCS-derived sebocytes model is available:

  • in monolayers (from 6 wp down to 96 wp)

  • in 3D culture (reconstructed human sebaceous gland model)

Cell characterization

Phenocell's iPCS-derived sebocytes model is fully characterized:

  • Normal karyotype

  • High level of purity

  • Expression of key sebocyte markers
    (e.g. MUC1, KRT7, PPARg, FADS2, AR, MC5R)

  • Lipid synthesis

Cell functionality

Phenocell's iPSC-derived sebocyte model is fully validated for testing:

  • Cell toxicity & cell survival

  • PPARs activation

  • Androgen receptor activation

  • Inflammation response  to LPS, Arachidonic acid, C. acnes

  • Sebogenesis and lipid synthesis (e.g. squalene, wax ester)

  • Response to cannabinoids
